My Story
An agave-based riff on the most classic cocktail of all time, this drink is sweet, smokey, and delicious and has a touch of theatrics. It was invented at Death & Co in the East Village, NYC. Best enjoyed after a long day of work or a hot day.
Recipe
Total Preparation Time: 5 mins
Ingredients
1.5 oz Tequila reposado
0.5 oz Mezcal
1 tsp Agave nectar
1-2 dashes Angostura or Mole bitters
1 Orange peel (for garnish), ~1 inch wide
Method
Combine all ingredients in a shaker or glass.
Add a handful of ice and stir for 15-20 seconds.
Strain into a short glass with one large ice cube (or multiple small ones if a large ice cube is not available).
Hold a lighted match or lighter in one hand over the drink, and squeeze the orange peel (outside facing the flame) about 1 inch away until oils spark into the drink – repeat a couple times and drop the orange peel into the cocktail.
